Striving

(order ID # BW45-00005)

Olmsted Point in Yosemite National Park is a wonderland of graphic shapes and contrasts, all etched in granite. Granite exfoliating slabs, boulders strewn hither and yon, and the occasional rugged tree gaining a toehold in the stone. Walking around presents an ever changing kaleidoscope of juxtapositions and compositions. I never get tired of it. For this image I found a composition I liked with the boulders leading up to the tree, got the camera position low, and used the lens tilts and swings of my large format view camera to maximize the depth of field. Oh yes, I had to wait patiently kneeling on the abrasive surface until nobody was in the field of view.
