Materials:
All photographs will fade and discolor to some extent over time. Taking
steps to enhance the longevity of a photo is called archival preparation,
and I am quite keen on the subject. After all, you deserve to have your
purchase last as long as possible. To this end, I create my color prints
using either Fuji Crystal Archive paper, tested to be the most permanent
color paper on the market today, or on an Epson inkjet printer using the
Ultrachrome K3 inkset. These prints should last 60 years or more without
significant loss of quality when on display . In dark storage, they will
last hundreds of years. When I mount and mat these prints, I use acid-free,
white 100% rag board, the best material available.
Black and white prints last longer than color prints if processed properly.
I process them properly, using fiber based paper, a two-bath fix, hypo-clear,
selenium toning, and extended wash times. These prints should last hundreds
of years on display.
I drymount my prints on the archival mat board and sign on the mat board
below the print. I custom cut a window mat for each print using the same
superior quality 4-ply mat board. I use single mats for the 11 x 14 prints,
and for the larger sizes I use double mats.
My standard framing uses metal frames that have a finish called gunmetal.
This is a dark, neutral color that goes well with any decor. My 11 x 14
prints are in 16 x 20 frames; my 16 x 20 prints come in either 20 x 28,
22 x 28, or 24 x 28 frames, and my 20 x 24 prints will be in frames 24 x
32 or 28 x 32. The 11 x 14 and 16 x 20 prints I usually frame with glass
glazing; the 20 x 24 size takes plexiglass glazing to save weight and add
safety. If you prefer glass to plexiglass or vice versa I will frame it
that way for you. For a small extra cost I will be happy to frame my photographs
in other colors of metal frames. I also frame using wood frames of an elegantly
simple design, available in the five colors shown above.
Shipping of matted or framed prints larger than 20 x 24 is so gosh-darned
expensive, I don't recommend that you have me mat or frame them for you.
Rather, buy the photograph from me and have it framed by a framer near you.
A note on print sizes:
I price my prints by the size of the paper they are printed on. Since
some film formats don't fit exactly onto a sheet of printing paper, the
actual print size may not be precisely what is listed in the table. Some
images also require cropping. A print listed as 11 x 14, for example, may
in reality be 9.5 x 14. So take the print sizes as a nominal, approximate
guideline.
Be warned that some photographers price their photos by the size of the
frame they are in. They might list an 11 x 14 print in a 16 x 20 frame as
a "16 x 20 photo." This gives them a false appearance of economy
in their product.
Returns:
No two photographs are ever exactly the same, no two computer monitors
are exactly the same, and no computer monitor will match the look of a photographic
print. Thus there is always the possibility the photo you receive won't
look the way you imagined. (Although I think my prints will look better
in person than any monitor can express!) Thus I offer a two week period
after you receive your order in which you can return your photo(s) for a
full refund.
