Autumn in Michigan is stunning, and better the further north you go. I spent some time in the Keweenaw Peninsula, almost as far north as you can go in the state. I found myself embedded in endlessly beautiful woods on roads untraveled enough that I could poke along and stop at will to contemplate scenes before me. I found this composition early in the day but the light was direct and harsh. I made a note of the location and returned close to sunset when the direct light was off my subject; the soft, enveloping light is just what I wanted to bring out the gentleness of the scene. |
