Hoodoo, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah

(order ID # CT35-01023)

A small hidden jewel in southern Utah is Cedar Breaks National Monument. It has red sandstone spires ("hoodoos") and other exotic formations created by erosion reminiscent of Bryce Canyon, but without the crowds. It is in the form of a gargantuan amphitheater, a giant orange pit in the ground filled with undulating folds and cliffs. I'm standing here on one ridge jutting into the bowl of the Monument shooting a hoodoo at sunset. The red rock is enhanced by the light of the red setting sun, an effect doubled by the reflection of red sun off the red cliff I am atop bouncing back to illuminate the red hoodoo.
