Ice Tiles, Lake Superior

(order ID # CT45-00002)

I was driving in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula along the frozen shore of Lake Superior in the bitter cold of winter when a startling shade of blue out on the lake ice caught my eye. I walked across the ice to investigate and discovered this scene of bizarre and desolate beauty. I am told that offshore winds make the ice crumple up on itself this way. I fetched my camera gear and shot for a long while at this spot, hoping that at least some of the one second exposures wouldn't be ruined by the gusting wind.
