Calla Lilies, Woodlawn Plantation

(order ID # CT35-02337-A)

Historic Woodlawn Plantation, once the home of George Washington's foster daughter, overlooks the Potomac River in Virginia not far north of Mount Vernon. Florally speaking, the Plantation is probably best known for its collection of heritage roses, varieties known before 1850. The roses were quite charming, but my eye was more strongly drawn to beds of voluptuous yellow calla lilies. This set of swirling blossoms amidst swirling leaves was difficult to compose, for I had to hide a blemish on the middle left bloom, while at the same time keeping the right hand bloom contained within the bed of leaves and promoting the closest lily to prominence. I hope you think I made something good out of the opportunity.
