Pink Dogwood Blossoms

(order ID # CT35-02218-A)

I found dogwood blossoms surprisingly hard to shoot. Not only is composition difficult, for the rich canopy of color breaks apart as you approach into small clumps that are not always photogenic, but the flowers are at the ends of branches that wave in the slightest breeze. Since I am usually shooting very slow slide film at small lens apertures for rich color and near-to-far sharpness, my shutter speeds are often in the neighborhood of one second. (With the camera on a tripod, of course.) One needs a calm day, indeed, if the subject wants to waft back and forth! Luckily this beautiful pink dogwood was just a few blocks from home and I passed it every day, so I could bide my time until a windless day came along. Then I spent over an hour working different angles and shooting a few rolls of film to strike upon this pleasing composition.
