I was enjoying a quiet lunch at a picnic table in Maidstone State Park in northeastern Vermont. As I gazed idly at my feet I noticed this one red leaf adrift in a sea of yellow-orange at the base of a tree a few feet away. There was no breeze to carry the scene away, so I finished my meal and then leisurely set up my tripod. I used my 105 mm lens, a very good optic, stopped down for maximum depth of field. With my slow Velvia film the exposure was two seconds, but with a tripod and no breeze I could have shot for minutes if necessary. |
