| Shooting in Vermont's "Northeast Kingdom," the northeastern corner of the state, presented me with an unexpected challenge. It was so hilly, with so few roads to choose from, that I had trouble finding grand vistas to photograph. Almost everything I shot on my visit there was with a 105 mm or 200 mm lens, used to extract interesting details from the middle distance and nearby. This was one case where the landscape opened up and I could use my 50 mm lens to make a more sweeping statement. I placed the blazing orange maple in the foreground to give a sense of depth to the distant hills. I used a polarizing filter to accentuate the colors of both the tree and the sky. |
