Bristlecone Pines, Patriarch Grove

(order ID # CT35-03058-C)

Bristlecone Pines are nature's survivors. They have evolved survival techniques that make them the world's oldest living things. They exist only in stark environments at high altitude, near the limit of arboreal existence. The Patriarch Grove in California's Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is one of the finest locations to photograph these remarkable trees. In this image I aimed to capture the barrenness of their surroundings and the eons of their presence. So rugged are the Bristlecones that even these apparently dead remnants might yet have a spark of life in them.
